Progress, Honesty, and Challenges: A Treasurer's Update
Tim Haldeman has been faithfully serving as our church treasurer since the beginning of the year. On Sunday, July 12, 2026, Haldeman shared an important update on church finances. Tim highlighted that the Building for Today & Tomorrow Fund continues to allow us to make several important improvements to our church property.
“First, I want to thank you for your faithful generosity. Because of your support, we finished last year meeting our operating budget. We are grateful for God’s provision through our congregation, including those who worship with us online or others supporting our mission.
We have replaced all the windows in the building, significantly improving heating and cooling efficiency. We have also repointed many of the mortar joints on the exterior of the building, which should make it weatherproof for another 30-plus years. The area where the heating oil tank was removed near staff parking was paved after we upgraded the furnace to efficient natural gas burners. Additionally, new curbing was installed at two locations near the west entrance. Now, to further improve and upgrade our facility, we are receiving quotes for landscaping design.
These improvements were made possible by your generous giving to the Building for Today & Tomorrow Fund, and we thank you for your continued support. Some of the costs for these projects were paid with a loan from Jonestown Bank and Trust. Your ongoing contributions to the Building for Today & Tomorrow Fund help us pay down this loan. In addition, gifts to the Bequest Fund have enabled us to install much-needed network cabling and Wi-Fi throughout the building. These upgrades benefit not only our church ministries but also the ma
ny community organizations that use our facilities throughout the week.
While we are thankful for these blessings, it is important to understand that designated funds are restricted to their intended purposes and cannot be used to pay regular operating expenses. Our current challenge is with our operating budget. Over the past six months, our regular expenses have exceeded our regular income by approximately $10,000 per month. As a result, we have been relying on our reserve funds to cover the difference. Those reserves were set aside for times of need, but they are being depleted and cannot sustain our current level of spending indefinitely.
The church leadership wants to share this with you because we believe in being transparent and accountable with the resources God has entrusted to our church. So, we ask that you prayerfully consider your giving as God leads you. If you've been faithfully supporting the church through your regular offerings, we say a big thank you. If you've been considering beginning or increasing your regular giving, now would be a great time to do so. Your gifts support the mission, the staff, and the day-to-day operation of our church's ministries. Please also pray for our church leadership as we seek God's wisdom that we would continue to be good stewards of the resources God has provided and make wise decisions for the future.”
