Our LENTEN worship theme
During Lent we will be digging into the question: Why did Jesus die? For many North American Christians, there is only one answer to this question. But in reality, throughout the history of Christianity, there have been many different answers given by people of faith to this question, each one interpreting the meaning of Jesus’ death in response to the challenges and needs of that particular time and situation. Even today, as has always been the case, new theories, perspectives, and responses to this age-old question are being offered. Remaining open to “new light” has been a primary reason the Brethren have resisted doctrinal statements intended to answer questions once and for all. During this series we will drop in on this historic and ongoing conversation about the meaning of or reason for Jesus’ death. In so doing, may our understandings and faith grow in depth and our appreciation for the differences and the richness within the Christian faith grow in breadth.
