Pledge FAQs
What is a pledge?
A pledge is financial support for the betterment of our church & ministries. It is a symbol of your commitment and belief in our mission at PCOB: to invite, welcome, nurture, disciple, equip, empower, and inspire all persons to live and serve in the way of Jesus. To continue our work and build for the future, we rely on your pledges.
I put something in the offering plate every time I’m here, so why should I pledge?
We feel blessed and grateful to receive your donations. We encourage weekly contributions during Worship in the offering plate. Donations are typically an unpledged, one-time gift. Pledging, though, is giving a specific amount of financial support over time. It is a future-oriented act of faith and generosity. Pledges play an important role in determining our annual budget and planning for our ministries.
Am I required to pledge? How much should I pledge?
Giving is a joyful response to God’s generosity, not a requirement. Your pledge is a personal decision, informed by your financial means, your connection to our mission, and the needs of our ministries. We ask everyone to pledge, regardless of the amount; all gifts are precious and valued.
How is our pledge income used?
We use pledges to the capital campaign to provide spiritual development, promote our mission to the wider community, care for our facilities, offer adult and childhood education, lend a helping hand, strengthen and add to our existing ministries, and support our leadership and staff.
When do I pledge?
Your first pledge is likely to be made when you join this church community. After that, pledge or adjust your pledge anytime. A good time to review your pledge is after the board proposes a new budget. Due to increased demands of the modern world, the budgets often require many of us to increase our pledges annually.
For what time period am I pledging?

What if I need to change or cannot fulfill my pledge?
We understand that lives are always changing, along with personal finances. Pledges can be changed anytime during the year, using the same options listed above. It is a good idea to consult with the ministerial staff – informing us on the changes helps us budget and manage our budget.
May I volunteer instead of pledging?
Our volunteer gifts and financial gifts both make this church powerful and sustainable. We depend upon both.
