What is Chronic Food Insecurity?
Chronic food insecurity occurs when an individual is at regular risk of hunger for either short or long durations.
How We Are Funded
The Caring Cupboard is funded by a very generous community of churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals. We have many regular contributors who support us with monthly donations of both cash and food.
How We Got Started
Three Sunday school teachers of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren asked their elementary children of their class, “If someone who was hungry came to the church, what would Jesus do? The children responded, “Jesus would feed them.” This realization led to a food drive and became an involvement of the entire Palmyra congregation. The Sunday school class soon resembled a pantry with shelves of food as well as refrigerators. The word got out that the Palmyra Church of the Brethren was the place to go if you were desperate and needed food. The Caring Cupboard soon outgrew the church’s facility and joined forces with the Palmyra Area Cooperating Churches (PACC) who currently management the food bank. Click here for more history.
