NOOMA Series starting (September 13, 2009)

"A New Venture"

Sunday Morning Discussion Series Planned

Think on this: In today’s world we can get anything we want from anywhere in the world whenever we want it.

Do you find yourself nodding in agreement? This statement is a pretty good thumb-nail description of our society and modern life. And most of us probably want life to be this way—instant communications though texting; convenient banking via debit cards and ATMs; and drive-thru windows for food on the go. Who wants to go back to the days of black-and-white television—or no television at all?!

The world is far different than it was in Jesus’ time. Yet for all our modern gadgets and technology, our lives aren’t all that much different from those who did see and talk with Jesus. Just like people 2,000+ years ago, we want direction for our lives but wander aimlessly. Anger, jealousy, fear and greed haunt us as it did them. We hurt others and do not know how to ask for or receive forgiveness. We are hungry for an inner peace. Like those in the crowds by the Sea of Galilee, we want to know what it means to follow Him.

A special intergenerational discussion group for people 18+ is being formed this September to explore Jesus’ teachings and how they can be applied to today’s problems and concerns. The NOOMA series developed by Rob Bell, teaching pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church, will serve as the springboard for discussion. Each Sunday morning a different issue will be considered; the discussion fresh and new. This is the schedule for September:

  • September 13—Rhythm: What does it mean to have a relationship with God?
  • September 20—Trees: Do our lives really matter?
  • September 27—Store: We all get angry about things from time to time.
The group will meet from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the library, right after Fellowship Thirty. Please come join us for what should prove to be wide-ranging and insightful discussions!
